A First-timer’s 72hr Guide to the City of Angels

Los Angeles is one of the west coast’s top destinations and the 2nd largest city in the US (after New York of course). This sprawling southern California metropolitan area is filled with beaches, hills, shopping centers, museums, and is considered the center of the world’s film & television industry. Despite all the attractions being spread out and the hectic traffic, one weekend should be enough to see the city’s highlights. This travel guide is perfect for a weekend trip to LA without much time to see it all. Here’s exactly the sights you need to experience with only 72hrs in the city of angels!

1st Day in Los Angeles

If you’re traveling from the east coast, most flights can be expected to arrive in LAX within 5 hours. Even afternoon flights will reach Los Angeles by the early evening so with enough dedication, you might be able to begin your sightseeing the first night without wasting a moment.

  • Arrive in LAX
  • Eat an In-N-Out Burger (with a side of Animal Style fries)
  • Check out a hilarious comedy show at the Laugh Factory (Some shows start at 10pm)
  • Walk down notorious Sunset Boulevard
  • Grab a drink at Whiskey a Go-go or the Viper Room

2nd Day in Los Angeles

If you want to maximize your time and see the most sights, expect a jam packed schedule. As long as you start early, there should be no issues getting it all done. Just keep in mind to account for traffic and getting around. Your transportation options are between renting a car or Uber (public transport is pretty limited).

  • Try a French Dip Sandwich from Philippe the Original for breakfast
  • Go on a Warner Brothers Studio tour (earliest tour is 9am)
  • Shop Your Heart out at the Grove
  • Get some tacos at the Original Farmer’s Market
  • Check out the lights at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
  • Stargaze on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and TCL Chinese Theater
  • Stroll Down Rodeo Drive
  • Try a Smoked Salmon Pizza at Spago

3rd Day in LA

Unfortunately Los Angeles isn’t known for being a cheap city. Fortunately there are many free things to do. Besides transit costs, this day will be filled with iconic sight with zero price tag.

  • Start the day with the Godmother Sandwich at Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery
  • Relax at the Venice Beach Boardwalk
  • Head to the edge of the Santa Monica Pier
  • Taste a Chopped Salad at La Scala
  • Get inspired at the Broad Museum
  • Drive up to The Last House on Muholland for the best pics of the Hollywood Sign
  • Watch the Sunset and Stargaze from the Griffith Observatory
  • Savor amazing sushi and California rolls at Izakaya Osen

Whether it’s your 1st or 3rd time visiting, Los Angeles never fails to impress with its dynamic blend of celebrity ambiance, cuisine, and natural landscapes.
