7 More Reasons to Fall in Love with Puerto Rico
Alright I might be just a little biased but the insane diversity of landscapes make Puerto Rico the most magical island in the world. From beautiful beaches, to rainforests that sing with the sound of the coqui, Puerto Rico has earned the title la isla del encanto. Scattered across the island you’ll find some of the most unique natural phenomenon that make Boricuas proud to call it home. Here are the 7 Natural Wonders of Puerto Rico every travel adventurer needs to add to their bucket list!

1. The Bioluminescent Mosquito Bay
Not a single travel experience we’ve had yet has matched the cosmic beauty of Mosquito Bay. Located off the Eastern coast on an island named Vieques, you’ll encounter the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world. Kayaking through on a moonless night feels like drifting in liquid starlight from below. Every paddle stroke lights up the water in blue sparks, thanks to microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates. There are actually 2 other bioluminescent bays on the mainland in Fajardo and La Parguera but Mosquito Bay is bay far the most impressive. Definitely worth that inconvenient ferry ride over.

2. El Yunque National Rainforest
El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National forest system and contains one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet. The lush verdant landscape is home to waterfalls, mountains, and Puerto Rico’s adored amphibian, the coqui. The melodious whistles of the tiny frog’s song will leave you in a trance of enchantment. Climb to the top of the Yokahรบ Tower for panoramic views or sign up for an adventurous day tour of rock-sliding, cliff-jumping, and mountain-hiking action. Wear shoes youโre not emotionally attached to. The mud here has ambitions.

3. Flamenco Beach on Isla Culebra
The undisputed champion of the world’s most beautiful beach goes to Playa Flamenco. Pristine, powdery, turquoise, flawless- even these words fail to capture the true essence of this incredible coastline. With crystal clear waters and the ultra soft white sand, it remains my all time favorite beach on Earth. The graffiti’d up tank also adds a nice post-apocalyptic touch. You can take the same ferry from Cieba to get here. There are also snorkeling tours that can take you to different spots around the island too!

4. Las Cavernas del Rio Camuy
Beneath the islandโs northern hills runs one of the largest underground river systems in the world! El Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Rio Camuy is a cathedral of caves worth exploring. Journeying deep within the depths of the caverns is a mixture of awesome and haunting. But getting to witness the rays of light pierce through the darkness is an ethereal experience. The Park is prone to massive flooding so check to see if it’s open here.

5. Las Salinas Salt Flats in Cabo Rojo
All across the island you can find all shades of blue water imaginable. But there’s only one place you’ll encounter vibrant pink waters. Drive to the South-western coast in Cabo rojo where the pink of natural salt flats meet the infinite blue sky. The rose-colored waters shimmer against the sun in a mesmerizing hue that must be seen to be believed.

6. Cueva Ventana, the Window into the Heart of Puerto Rico
Deep within the shadowy, bat-filled cave network lies a picturesque view of Puerto Rico’s natural landscapes. About one hour from San Juan in the mountains of Arecibo is the hidden gem of Cueva Ventana. This “Window Cave” stares straight into the heart of El Rio Grande from the most spectacular viewpoint. Sign up for an epic combo tour of Cueva Ventana to access a few other contenders for a spot on this list.

7. Cayo Icacos, a Deserted Island Paradise
Just a short 20minute boat ride off the coast of Fajardo lies another hidden gem amongst an archipelago of deserted islands. Cayo Icacos is an abandoned cove with turquoise waters, coral reefs, and a secret trail leading to unforgettable views. It’s a desolate paradise perfect for relaxing and disconnecting for a few hours. Sign up for this all in inclusive voyage for beverages, snorkeling, and a luxurious ride. There aren’t any facilities on the island so prepare yourself before you arrive.

The 7 Natural Wonders of Puerto Rico symbolize how beautiful each corner of the island is and why PR is one of the most magical places on Earth. Of course there are so many other incredible natural landmarks across the island, but these have been the most profound travel experiences we’ve had yet.
